How Does Ortho-K Work?
Orthokeratology is a personalized solution to your nearsightedness. Your optometrist will take some corneal measurements and then create custom contact lenses, made especially for your eyes.
The contact lenses are rigid gas permeable. When worn, usually overnight, they flatten the cornea. Reshaping the cornea in this way changes the way light is refracted (bent) as it enters the eye.
When worn regularly at night, the lenses reshape the cornea for long enough that vision is often corrected without glasses in the daytime. If use is discontinued, the corneal shape will return to normal and corrective lenses will be needed.
Get Started With Ortho-K
A contact lens exam and fitting is necessary for ortho-k lenses, just as it is for regular contact lenses. Your optometrist will measure your corneal surface, then design your lenses.
It can take up to a few weeks to see the benefits of ortho-k, but in clinical studies, most patients achieved 20/40 vision or better.
